Only Fat Bikes are allowed in the Fat Bike Race. All bikes, i.e. mountain, fat, and single speed race in ONE category in the Expert, Sport and Citizen races. Tandem bikes are allowed, but discouraged and ineligible for overall or age class awards. The single track is very tight in places and tandems must yield right-of-way to other bikes.

Three-Person Team Competition!

Create your own Three-Person Team made up individually registered riders, one in the Expert Race, one in either the Sport or Fat Bike Race, and one in the Citizen Race.

There will be three Team types; All Male, all Female, and Mixed with one rider of the opposite gender, i.e., two males and one female, or two females and one male.

The fastest combined time of all three team members will be declared the winning team in each Team competition. There are no team age classifications. Awards will be given to each member of the three winning teams.

All team members must be individually registered in a race. There is no additional fee to be part of the Team Competition. Get your team together, decide on your team name, and register your team when you register for your individual event.

THE COURSES

The PreFat provides the perfect warm-up for the Chequamegon Fat Tire races. The race course starts and ends in the new Kortelopet Start Area at the Hwy 00 Birkie trailhead and goes north using both forest roads for fast speeds, and CAMBA single track to test your riding skills. This year’s courses are very similar to the 2017 and 2018 courses, with a small addition of single track.

Much of these courses are used for the Chequamegon Fat Tire races. All courses include sections of CAMBA single track. The 25 mile Expert Course is approximately 50% single track. The 17 mile Sport and Fat Bike Course is 40-50%, and the 10 mile Citizen Course is about 30-40% single track. More detailed information on each of the courses is provided below.

Citizen Race Line Up

TheCitizen” Course uses gravel roads, forest roads and three sections of single track. The single track includes a portion of the Seeley Pass trail between Fire Tower Fire Lane and Boedecker Road, followed by a short section of Boedecker and Janet roads, and then returns to the Seeley Pass trail, crossing Janet road onto a short, somewhat more difficult section of the trail near the end of the race between Janet Road and the “OO” trailhead parking lot. The course then crosses “OO” for the final 1.5 miles using a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track with a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to the finish.

Fat Bikers

The “Sport” and “Fat Bike” Courses use gravel and forest roads and three sections of single track. The first section of single track starts at the Camp 38 Road CAMBA trailhead and uses portions of the Flow Mama trail, including the “38 Special’ and “Gravity Cavity” features. This section continues on the “Flow Mama” trail to Boedecker Road. The course follows a short section of Boedecker and Janet roads, and then returns to the Seeley Pass trail, crossing Janet road onto a short, somewhat more difficult section of the trail near the end of the race between Janet Road and the “OO” trailhead parking lot. The course then crosses “OO” for the final 1.5 miles using a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track, with a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to the finish.

The “Expert” Course follows gravel and forest roads to the Camp 38 Road CAMBA trailhead and uses portions of the Flow Mama trail, including the “38 Special’ and “Gravity Cavity” features. This section follows the “Flow Mama” trail over the “High Point”, continuing on “Seeley Pass”, over Boedecker Road all the way across Janet Road to the “OO” trailhead parking lot. The course then crosses “OO” for the final 2.5 miles on a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track, with a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to the finish.
