PARKING:
PreFat event parking is available at the Birkie “OO” trailhead, near the new Birkie Family Outdoor Center, located three miles east from Seeley on County Highway “OO”.
THE START AND FINISH:
All four races start in the in the Birkie Kortelopet start area located on the south side of “OO” about 1/4 mile from the parking lots. Follow the signs from the parking lots to the Start area.
You’ll start by leaving the start line and turning right onto “OO”. All riders must follow the lead ATV until you turn left onto the Telemark Fire Lane gravel road. DO NOT pass the ATV until you reach the gravel or you will be disqualified.
Then follow your course arrows for the duration of your event. Be aware as you may encounter other non-PreFat riders and/or vehicles anywhere on the course. The courses are not closed for this event!
Black arrows on Yellow signs mark the Citizen course, White arrows on Blue signs are for the Sport and Fat Bike course, and Black arrows on White signs mark the Expert course.
You will finish immediately adjacent to where you started in the Kortelopet Ski Race start field, located south of “OO”. You’ll first cross the Birkie Bridge over “OO” and then have another section of single track leading to the wider ski trail and your finish.
THE COURSES
The PreFat provides the perfect warm-up for the Chequamegon Mountain Bike event. The race course goes north using both forest roads for fast speeds, and CAMBA single track to test your riding skills. This year’s courses are very similar to the 2019 course. All three courses will use the Birkie bridge crossing over highway OO near the end of each race.
Much of these courses are used for the Chequamegon Mountain Bike races. All courses include sections of CAMBA single track. The 25 mile Expert Course is approximately 50% single track. The 17 mile Sport and Fat Bike Course is 40-50%, and the 10 mile Citizen Course is about 30-40% single track. More detailed information on each of the courses is provided below.

Citizen Race Line Up
The “Citizen” Course uses gravel roads, forest roads and three sections of single track. The single track includes a portion of the Seeley Pass trail between Fire Tower Fire Lane and Boedecker Road, followed by short sections of Boedecker and Janet roads, and then returns to the Seeley Pass trail, crossing Janet road onto a short, somewhat more difficult section of single track taking you to the “OO” parking lot and the Birkie Bridge. The course then crosses “OO” on the Birkie bridge before the final 1.5 miles using a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track and a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to your finish.

Fat Bikers
The “Sport” and “Fat Bike” Course uses gravel and forest roads and three sections of single track. The first section of single track starts at the Camp 38 Road CAMBA trailhead and uses portions of the Flow Mama trail, including the “38 Special’ and “Gravity Cavity” features. This section continues on the “Flow Mama” trail to Boedecker Road. The course follows a short section of Boedecker and Janet roads, and then returns to the Seeley Pass trail, crossing Janet road onto a short, somewhat more difficult section of single track leading to the “OO” parking lot and the Birkie bridge. The course then crosses over the “OO” Birkie bridge before the final 1.5 miles using a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track, with a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to your finish.
The “Expert” Course follows gravel and forest roads to the Camp 38 Road CAMBA trailhead and uses portions of the Flow Mama trail, including the “38 Special’ and “Gravity Cavity” features. This section follows the “Flow Mama” trail over the “High Point”, continuing on “Seeley Pass”, over Boedecker Road all the way across Janet Road to the “OO” trailhead parking lot. The course then crosses over the “OO” Birkie bridge before the final 2.5 miles on a ski trail, a short section of Makwa single track, with a final flat and fast section on a ski trail to your finish.
